FAT CONTENT aims to create experimental, multidisciplinary performance to challenge, enchant, evoke and entertain.
Anna Beecher, Daniel Redfern-Holme & Rachel Lincoln
FAT CONTENT was formed in 2007 by Anna Beecher, Daniel Redfern-Holme and Rachel Lincoln from a desire to create original, professional and truly independent work.
Their unique style fuses surrealism, naturalism, physical theatre, text/poetry and music. Their shows to date have been semi-devised, semi-written through a process that begins with the exploration of universal themes, research of diverse influences (from pop culture to mythology) & finally threading in character and story.
Productions
The Man I Cure written in 2007
The original production saw the performance space reverted in detail to its previous state; a wartime hospital. The piece was a surreal, comic exploration of loneliness, gender roles and sexuality, explored through a mixture of poetry, naturalism, dance, dark-comedy and complete engagement of the senses. FAT CONTENT were awarded The Annie Garret Emerging Company Award of 2007.
Performed at The Institute for Contemporary Arts & Buxton Festival Fringe (Best New Writing Award Nomination) in 2007, London's Theatre 503 and The Pleasance Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2008.
The Gannet written in 2009
In 2009 FAT CONTENT received sponsorship from Workspace Group Ltd, in the form of a rehearsal space to create The Gannet, a dystopian and very surreal take on the story of Hansel and Gretel. It came from FAT CONTENT's desire to create show that explored the notion of growing up, pin pointing the moments of transition from childhood to adulthood.
After a scratch at The Pleasance, Islington, FAT CONTENT were invited to perform at Latitude Festival 2009 as part of 'Picks Of The Pleasance'.
Performed at Pleasance Theatre Islington, Latitude Festival and Pleasance Theatre Edinburgh in 2009.
Roasting written in 2009/10
This cabaret act is formally a section of The Gannet that FAT CONTENT have since developed into it's own piece. It stars the creatures from childhood fairy tales who celebrate and lament their addiction to sugar through song, poetry and games with the audience.
It broke the record of attendance and capacity of a 'Secret' at Southwark Playhouse. It has since been performed at Bistroteque's 'Under Construction'– "A who's who of alternative performance in London" Time Out - and the Royal Vauxhall Tavern as part of dUCKiE.
